I want to start my own little business repairing computers, but I have no idea for what services I can charge people and what is considered a fair deal.

I was thinking

10 bucks for a diagnosis
and 30 if i had to do any work on the PC.

Right my computer I don't even know the name of. Some specs are as follows

Has an Asus a8n-SLI motherboad.
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.21ghz
RAM: 2 (I got another 3 I can put in)

I also know the computer has an Nvidia graphics card.

Right, before I installed a fresh copy of windows (Vista), the desktop had XP and before I even started trying to fix it, it used to blue screen if I tried booting from CD, if I tried changing firewall settings, system restore point. Just all blue screens! My mate some how managed to stop this but however, it still blue screened from trying to boot from CD. However XP was running fine now, I downloaded all the latest drivers as I managed to install my Belkin Internet adapter to access the internet. After everything was moreless up to date, the desktop let me boot from CD to install a fresh copy of windows.

Now here is the new problem.

Bit similar to last time. I can install the internet and access websites like Facebook and Google through internet explorer as usual. But when I try change the security settings, install Google Chrome, Install Adobe Flash Player, try download Service Pack 2 for Vista and when I click on the System Restore to have a look, it just blue screens and restarts and after this it just blue screens straight from load up half way through the Vista loading screen (with the green bar moving if you know what I mean, haha) so I have to boot from CD again and repair windows.

So yeah, I guess it blue screens from trying to install any sort of software. My mate managed to fix this on XP. Do you know how to do this on Vista? My mate is a College Amateur and just guesses so he luckily fixed it last time. I done all the dirty work myself! Once it stops blue screening over stuff like that I can download all the latest drivers for it and get it running properly!

I called a repair shop here in CA that supposedly has the best prices and service according to Yelp. My '83 Toyota Celica Supra starts fine and drives, but the previous owner said the engine loses power. I haven't been able to test drive it because the engine is off the fan and I don't know how to put it back on. It's also unregistered.

The repair shop said it would take them an hour and a half to diagnose the problem at $165. Is this reasonable or should I shop around?

The company I work for lease their trucks from Ryder Truck Rental and Leasing and I drive a 2007 International 4300 with the DT466 engine and a Allison Automatic Transmission. I was happy to get the truck new in 06 before I was in a 1999 Freightliner Fl70 with a 8LL Eaton Fuller Transmission. Anyway since I had the truck, I had nothing but problems. At 4,000 miles the check engine light went on. Had to take the truck to get it looked at by Ryder and they could not find nothing wrong with it. So they reset the code and it was fine. About 2,000 miles later it went on again this time it was beeping. So I thought it was nothing, just deal with it. The next day, truck wouldn't start. So it got towed to the shop were it has been sitting for a month. They then send the truck to International and then come to find out the starter went bad and the batteries were bad too. They told me the batteries had corosion on them. I'm thinking the truck has less than 5,000 miles and the batteries and starter are no good. So I got it back, A week later the A/C stopped working and along came on the light. So they had replaced it and everything was good. At 14,000 miles the water pump went on it leaving me on the side of the road on the hottest day of the year. I got it back a week later. The next day the engine is over heating. They didn't put the special coolant inside the water pump and there was no coolent inside the tank. There was in the morning were I did an inspection. So it got towed. Another new water pump and radiator. I thought my problems were finally gone. The truck now had 65,000 miles. The transmission driveshaft fell off the truck while I was driving. There goes another day on the side of the road, It got fixed and now I'm rolling again. At 75,000 the fuel tanks are rotting out because of the bad paint International used for painting the fuel tanks and the frame. The drivers side tank started leaking and went to the shop to have it fixed. They put a new tank on and hooked all the lines and pump back up, the next day the passanger side tank was leaking so I was gonna have it fixed. I was on my way to the shop and the truck is loosing power. I was down the street from the shop. The fuel pump went. So the tanks got fixed and new fuel pump and I made them put a new line on the truck. The A/C was replaced again while I was there. So now 120,000 comes and it's loosing power. Took it to the shop. All the fuel injectors were bad. All of them! So that got fixed. At the same time the interior gadge lights were blown. At night I can't read the fuel or the engine tempature. The CD player doesn't work, and the passanger window doesn't go down. It has power windows. At 130,000 miles all the warning lights went on at the same time along with the alarm. So I pulled over and had the truck towed. All the sensors and the computer system failed and was going balistic. I swear that truck went through 7 A/C systems. They all suck. At 160,000 4 years later the trucks lease was up and away it went. I was relieved all my problems are over, NOT. The company now leased a 2011 International Durastar with the Maxxforce 7 engine in it. I liked the redone interior in it. I thought it was nice. At 10,000 miles the A/C went on it. The service brake release valve was no good, this truck had an air ride suspention so one of the air bags had a rip in it. It got fixed. At 25,000 miles the truck is loosing air. I would have 120 pounds of air stored and another second the air would be at 50 pounds so the alarm went on. It got fixed. I talked to the owner told him the truck is junk. So we went to the leasing company and demanded a new truck. The company can't afford to have anymore repair bills. So at 30,000 miles the truck is gone! I got a 2012 freightliner M2106 with the cummins engine in it and it has the Eaton Fuller Smart Shift Transmission in it. The truck now has 85,000 miles and have not have any problems with it other than proper matenence. If your company leases trucks convince them to go with freightliner. The trucks are way better than the International durastar or any International. If you drive a freightliner, you know what I'm talking about. International sucks. All the problems I had with the truck are paid off because I have this powerful Cummins engine. Only if International can build good quality trucks. That will never happen. Test your junk you call engines and plastic cabs before you put it on the market. My question to you. Do you think International sucks and please share your story. Thank-You very much.

Due to my gluttony, the metal waist clip on my dress pants broke while I was dressing for church and I had to wear jeans. Does JC Penny provide this service or do I have to buy a new pair?

i purchased specialist/gadget insurance for my console and had to claim due to my console breaking. i rang the insurance company and they came out and collected my console, about a week later is was returned to me but there was still a problem (i later found out they had only cleaned) and then proceeded to send my console a further 4 or 5 times of which every time it came back in a worse condition. i rang the insurance company up as i decided to try them 1 more time but this time my claim was refused, i was told "we will not be repairing your console and we will not replace it as it is costing us to much money" (not something you expect to hear from an insurance company), i then asked them what is going to be done then to which i was insulted with the following reply "either find someone else to repair it or buy another console". i have since then spoke ti financial ombudsman service who appear to be doing nothing and i rang up gamestation who told me that my console is still covered by them under the sale of goods act (never new about this but was happy to hear it) and they sent my console off to there repair center which fixed the problem. all this time my insurance company have been denying that there is a fault and saying they could not find the fault. i have since rang up my insurance company and asked for a full refund and compensating for my grievances to which they have said no. i am wondering if anyone could give me some legal advice on what to do next as i payed them a lot of money for a service that i have not received and i am not happy with.
i have considered small claims court but if i lost then it would cost me up to £400 which i could not afford.
the insurance i took out is gadget insurance where i pay so much each month and whenever there is a problem with my gadget(PS3 console) i ring them and they send it the there repair centre in my agreement it states that if they can not repair my console then i will be issued with a like for like replacement. neither part of the contracted was upheld on there part.

I have decided that I really enjoyed the two RC Buggies that I have (Kyosho 1/8 scale and Red Cat 1/8 scale). However, as I was new to the hobby, they have gone to complete disrepair. Both are completely broken, either with stripped gears, broken pull cord, etc. The engines last worked fine, but they have not been used in a while. Where would I find a repair center either around Atlanta, or even in the USA so I can ship the cars with all the parts and screws I have, so someone can get them back Ready To Run?

my laptops motherboard is messed up and i found a ebay service offered by paramount computers that lets me send my laptop to them for repair my question is does it cost money for me to send it? if so is it generally expensive to ship stuff like a laptop? do you just go to a post office and ask them to ship it, and give them money?

In the United Kingdom, before a dispute reaches an Employment Tribunal acas which is an independent government sanctioned body has legal authority to mediate in disputes. Neither party is obliged to accept it, but the Tribunal is inclined to frown on companies or employees who refuse because they may have something to hide. The company usually has to pay for this if the dispute hasn't already gone to a Tribunal, though they can ask the employee for a contribution but usually don't. However, the service is free after a claim has been filed.

Also there are things like compromise agreement's where the employer settles out of court with the employee in return for certain under takings between both parties. These may typically be clauses which make both sides agree to not make derogatory comments, prevent the employee from having a second bite of the cherry in court and for the company to provide non prejudicial references for the employee for his/her new place of work in the future because the contract of employment has been ended by mutual agreement. The company normally also pays for the employees legal expenses. Either party can be sued if they break the agreement because it is legally binding.

A COT3 is similar to a compromise agreement in terms of being legally binding but is usually used in situations where the working relationship between employer and employee has been repaired to a significant extent.

If there is no out of court agreement, there is a case management discussion and then a pre tribunal hearing which are designed to weed out weak or just simply frivolous and vexatious litigants. Of course, no system is perfect though, and sometimes it does happen but generally not because if you piss the Tribunal off they can award a cost order against either party. After all this which usually, but not always takes about six months there is a full merits hearing. Decisions can be made on the day or up to a few weeks afterwards. Sometimes the Tribunal allows a losing party to appeal but there are strict sets of rules and deadlines.

In layman's terms how does it work in the United States ( or other countries if you are posting from Australia or Canada etc)?

Usually, with 65$, I could do around 600 km (373 miles) with my 2001 Escape (4 cylinders, 2L, smallest engine), so we can basically say 1$ for 10 km (6 miles). In the last month, I have noticed that my car is a lot less efficient. With that same 65$, I can only do 400 km (250 miles) instead of the 600km I used to do. I know gas prices went up and the car uses more fuel during the winter, but I think there is something wrong. I can’t see anything leaking underneath. I want to take an appointment to get it checked, but is there any way I could figure out what Is happening without having to go to some auto repair service? (to be honest, I’m a student and I’m broke as fck so I would like to save money on the inspection)

I do not make a lot of money so I need to have my room mate to help in paying the bills. The house is in my name, b/c of my current work situation and the way the economy is I need this room mate financially to assist with the bills.

My house will be paid off in about 2 more years, so I won't need a help at that point.

This person lives in my basement, and pays me rent.

I am one of the most laid back people you will ever meet. It takes a lot to push my buttons to make me go off on you.

The man who lives in my basement is 62 years old a little over twice my age. They are the most horrible human being I have ever met in my entire life. I will make a list for you of things they have done over the past couple of years they have been living in my basement.

1) I ordered a pizza last week. I put the left overs in a plastic container in my refrigerator. Then the man in the basement wrote a note on the container with a couple of things listed on it that they know I am allergic to.

2) This person lets my indoor cat outside multiple times a week on purpose.

3) This person does things like poor water into my ketchup bottles when they are still half full.

4) This person frequently calls me lazy, a loser, fat, ugly things of that nature. Un provoked.

5) This person will play the Keyboard frequently. They only know a hand full of songs. They refuse to wear headphones with it and play the volume loud. This person sometimes sings hateful lyrics asking me to kill myself...

6) This person acts very different around other people. This person is super nice around other people, and acts horrible around me.

7) This person is addicted to drugs. For instance they bought a hundred dollars worth of pills last week. This person smokes weed on a daily basis. This person is aware that I am very anti drug.

8) I have found drawings of myself made by this person which make me look like a monster. They have even drawn it in driveway on my sidewalk in the summer.

9) I have a good cable service that I pay for alone. Not only do they leach free cable off of me, but on a daily basis they erase any movie, or program that I have recorded. These erasings are not to make space. The hard drive has over 85% Free space. On top of erasing good blockbuster movies in which I have recorded they tape other things. For example they will tape spanish channels (this person speaks no spanish) They will then tape things like infomercials. Clearly things nobody in there right mind would want to watch for entertainment taped just to annoy me.

10) Last summer my cable line that runs in through the basement was bent out of shape so it would not work. I needed to call a cable man to repair it because the person in my basement bent it for no reason. I was out of internet and TV for 2 days.

11) This person has dumped my cats litter box into a basket of my clean clothes the day after I washed them.

12) This person has poor personal hygiene. I would estimate that they shower perhaps once every 3 to 5 days at most.

13) This person makes it impossible for me to bring women back to my house. They are an embarrassment.

I could go on and on listing things, but you get the point. What should I do?

My father is a handyman. He was repairing windows at request. Then the residents of the house was complaining about the quality of his work, which is preposterous seeing how he has shown his cleanliness and skill for years without a single complaint. It turns out, they were trying to have him fix it without paying by bombarding him with complaints and accusations. They locked their gate to prevent him from coming home and refused to let him take his tools... isn't that thievery? They are trying to sell my father's tools and belongings.
They owe my father $2000 for his services. But refuse to pay him.
He was trying to pick me up from school but the residents held him hostage 3 on 1. This has to be against the law no?
What can we do to receive my father's well earned money and get this household in trouble?

I went to Geek Squad and they charged me $250 to recover my pictures.

Its was ok till date ,,, i accessed the config page previously but suddenly today m unable to open the config page .. whenever by default IP address 192.168.1.1 i m trying to open the config page , this asking me to enter the user name & password & when ever i m entering the admin / admin as username/password this is again asking for username & password .. but the config page is not opening ... i reset the modem by the reset button but still its not working ... & used more than 2 browser but did not get any solution ... any help ? plz guys help me .. should i send my modem to repair for in service center ...??? it is still under warranty period ....

I saw questions on here about the possibility of titanium rods breaking, which was responded to as being 2-5% chance. Someone commented that if it did or a screw came out you would be so rich. My fusion is done for three levels in my neck with a titanium plate and 6 screws, it was done through a VA hospital which is my only health care aside from Medicare coverage. Over the holidays I had new pain in my right side of my neck (stabbing pain), as well as between my shoulder blades.

As I go to the VA it took me calling over a three week period to get a return call to even set an appointment. I saw my Doctor this Monday 01/23/2012 and explained the new pains and asked for an MRI. He made an offhand comment about how I want to jump right to the most expensive test, but did order X-Rays, which I expected would be several weeks out.

However, the X-Ray peeps called me Wednesday and set an appointment for yesterday. After shooting both cervical and lumbar they told me the Doc wanted the radiologist to review right away and for me to wait. The technician came out a few minutes later and told me the Doc wanted to see me right away. Stating that was not a good sign, I asked her what the prob was but of course she was unable to say. I mentioned that it had to be a screw loose or problem with the plate and got a slight nod.

The VA clinic the Doc is in is about 10 miles from where the X-Ray clinic is so I went there, pretty much knowing whatever category the problem fell into, I was in for an immediate neck brace and future surgery to repair/replace. I was dumbfounded to learn that it was not a screw but the plate had completely broken in half. The Doc ordered a consult for Ortho, for surgical consult and MRI (told him so) at the VA in Ashville, NC which is nearly 4 hours from where I live. Best scenario, is the consult, MRI and surgery can be done in one trip. Worst scenario and most likely is it will be weeks if not months before I even have an appointment set. Meanwhile I am walking around with broken metal poking here and there in my neck.

Going to be rich? Not gonna happen, just a service member cannot sue the government for any wrong doing/malpractice, I do not have any recourse for a titanium plate breaking in less than 12 years time. No chance of a better out look for me or millions of other VETS though, just saw the news of 500 BILLION plus being gutted from defense beginning almost immediately. Surely, the Veterans Adminstration which is already overburdened, understaffed and under budgeted will not fair well in the fall out of that either.

Get to your Senator/Representative/President and kindly ask them to quit screwing over the military/veterans that have served in good faith with expectations and promises they would be provided for afterwards. This goes way beyond the BS of OBLAME-A stating the military should pay for its own healthcare (as we volunteered) and other stupidity he has uttered regarding the military/veteran populations and over all national defense. How much is enough?
