Question #1: Is it a better deal to get your can deposit back or turn them in for their weight in aluminum?
Here in California, we have to pay $.05 or $.10 deposit for bottles and cans depending on what it is. There is a mechanism in place to return those cans to get your deposit back. I never do--I rinse them out and put them in the city's blue recycle bin--allowing the city to double dip on my deposit. They get the cans and bottles recycled AND keep my deposit.
I'm considering keeping what I calculated to be $200 a year or more by returning all my cans and bottles. Then I thought "I actually own this aluminum and plastic, maybe I can get more by turning it in to a place that weighs your raw materials and pays you by the pound."
Does anyone know if it is better to weigh your raw materials and get paid by the pound, or is it better to just get the deposit back?

Question #4: Recycle or garbage stupid question?

Question #5: I love kombucha tea, but I hate to waste a 'beautiful' glass bottle for each drink. Do I have any options?
I only treat myself to kombucha tea once in a great while because I do not like to waste glass & I do not drink any drinks in plastic bottles unless it is an emergency. I take the paper off and reuse the bottles as water bottles and make my tea in them as well. But, they almost never go bad on me and I have enough glass water bottles around in every room as well as water bottles for the animals filtered water too.
I just read that you can make it, but, if it is not a sterile enough environment, it may not be safe...plus I am not much of a cook or scientist.
Does that mean that I should just not buy it?
Are there any kind of packets that I can simply pour into my own glass bottles that would have similar benefits?
I know I can recycle the bottles...but, I always try to reuse before I recycle and I often don't buy things because of the packaging which is my current dilemma.
Peace! ^j^

Question #6: Isnt recycling bad because refineries are needed and that adds carbon to the atmosphere?
Just curious, my idea is recycling is collected for free then is sold to refineries to make money out of garbage, you get 10 cents per can and some change for plastic and paper, my buddy was going out and stealing recycle bins and trading it in himself, he was making about 400 bucks a day until he got arrested and had to pay the money back(well some) and do community service. There is money there, I think its a scam considering refineries add to the carbon, even though I think that is a scam to. However I can be reversed on this subject I do obviously recycle and drive a honda civic so im not a total oil barron, but my posistion on AGW is to focus on the political scam+paid for science trickled down to the young minds aka my repeater science theory which is truth.

Question #11: Can the police get dna off of 100% recycled plastic?
Question #12: Having kids demonstrates societal irresponsibility and selfishness.?
I think it's selfish and irresponsible nowadays for people to have children. There are numerous children up for adoption sad and alone in orphanages. There are numerous people living in poverty and starvation due to lack of enough resources to go around, and in pollution as a result of human biological waste and energy waste. People complain about taxes being taken out of their pay to support people on welfare, but they see nothing wrong with bringing yet another life into the world to suck off of the rest of us. We live on a finite sphere called Earth. A finite environment cannot sustain infinite life. Gone are the days when it all just naturally happened. People need to take responsibility for the environment in more ways than just recycling plastic, especially women who were too stupid to have a kid when they were younger and insist on taking chances at having disabled babies with birth defects, which further financially burden the rest of us. There's absolutely nothing sacred about having your own DNA passed down or continuing your family name anymore.
I agree with abortion and limits that other countries have on how many kids family can have. I think that after 1-2 kids, a man and a woman should both be mandatory sterilized. I also wish that women who give birth to babies addicted to drugs should received mandatory hysterectomies immediately after the birth of the child, whether it's their 1st child or not. That family on TV with 20 kids is ridiculous. Even if they support their kids financially 100% until adulthood, their kids will grow into adults who contribute to waste and pollution and gobbling up of food, clothing, shelter, and jobs, which are becoming more and more scarce.

Question #13: How do they sort the bits of paper from recycled glass/plastics?
I recycle and like everyone, when I recycle glass and plastics, labels/aluminum lids are also put into the same bin along with paper and plastics. Do they seperate out that paper and aluminum when recycling the glass and plastics? Or do they just recycle it all together? Does this have a negative effect on the recycling process?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
Question #14: Which thesis Statement is best for this topic?
In English I had to come up with a Thesis Statement about why people should recycle aluminum cans and glass bottles. And I was wondering if this sounds okay before I turn it in. 1. "People should consider recycling aluminum cans and plastic bottles because it conserves precious resources for future generations, keeps our beaches and highways clean, and it reduces the waste that is placed into land fills". 2. " If recycling saves the environment, conserves precious resources, and keeps our beaches and highways from becoming polluted and hideous, why wouldn't you want to recycle?" 3. "People should consider recycling aluminum cans and glass bottles because it conserves precious resources for future generations to come."

Question #18: Does conservatives' 'personal responsibility' crusade include consumption, waste, and the environment?
With regard to personal consumption and waste, much conservative policy seems to encourage materialism and promote that idea that people should be given the freedom to consume and waste as much as they want with little regard for the impact on others or the environment, in the pursuit of well-deserved material rewards. Environmental legislation (the banning of plastic bottles, emissions standards, etc.) is often portrayed negatively because it does not give people enough of a "choice" in how much, when, where, or how they consume or waste. Yet it does not take a scientist to know that Americans waste more than any other country and could, with little effort, make much more thoughtful consumption and waste decisions.
By contrast, old conservatives, such as my father, who grew up in the Great Depression were raised in a culture where conservation and recycling were the norm.
How do conservatives/corporate conservatives reconcile their interest in unlimited consumption and materialism with their 'personal responsibility' mantra, when it is clearly not responsible to future generations or others on the planet to consume and waste at an unlimited pace?
I understand that Democrats often aren't much better. Yet it seems contradictory that conservatives have few qualms about legislatively forcing "personal responsibility" when it comes to doing away with Social Security or reproductive rights, but find it intolerable to force personal responsibility by banning water bottles or banning smoking in shared facilities.

Question #19: Why do some people think that cloth diapers are so stupid?
I come from a southern republican family. My cousin had a baby two years ago and has nearly always used cloth (reusable) diapers. She claims her baby has allergies but she's never taken the baby to an allergist. I assume most people use cloth diapers to save some money and some people use them to put less pressure on the landfills. My entire family, save for my "hippie" mother, think that my cousin is crazy. I am pregnant and asked my cousin what she knows about cloth diapers with disposable liners. My biggest mistake was asking in front of my family. Turns out one of my aunts pulled my sister to the side and told her not to let my cousin poison me. I mean wow. I'm not mad at them about it I just think that my family is really avoiding the FACT that diapers are bad news for our landfills. Am I just buying into the "green mom blogs" that preach about how horrible our habits are for our babies? I feel like I alone will never be able to change the way that people dispose of their trash but I want to know that I'm not a part of unnecessary consumption. I have always wanted to recycle plastics, cardboard boxes, paper bills and you know, the junk that takes up space. I take most of my stuff to goodwill when I'm done with it. Even crappy little dollar store shower rings! I don't believe it is good to throw it into the dumpster. Who knows where it ends up? Then again, I think I'm being over the top about it. So am I right? Should I make my best efforts to help my community and our environment? Or is it my family who is right?
Question #20: Any ideas for an animation on recycling?
please help cause i need to do an animation for a school assembly and I can't think of what to make the animation about. It has to be about recycling plastic and if anyone has any ideas that would be great, especially if they include anything with animals like plastic bottles and how they hurt them. Thank you very much!!! Oops
